Venue
This year’s Annual Ball will be held at Ravintola Töölö, a venue with a historic connection to the School of Business.
Ravintola Töölö Before
The building on Runeberginkatu was completed in 1950, when it became the main building of the Helsinki School of Business. The post-war construction required funding, which was raised through a so-called “charity trading” and the sale of products like cardamom, mackerel, nylon socks, rice, peaches, and American cars. The fundraising continued until 1952, and by the end of the campaign, the Fundraising Committee managed to raise approximately 350 million marks for the School of Business.
Designed by Hugo Harmia and Woldemar Baeckman, the building is well known for its architecture and art. For example, Michael Schilkin’s relief depicting merchants on the façade may have caught your eye.
Ravintola Töölö Now
The School of Business moved from Töölö to Otaniemi in 2019. However, the building has not been forgotten. It was renovated in 2021 and renamed as Aalto University Töölö. Today, it belongs to the Aalto University Executive Education (Aalto EE) and serves as an educational facility alongside Ravintola Töölö, which offers both a restaurant and an event space.
