Q&A
If you have any questions about the Annual Ball, etiquette, program etc. feel free to shoot us a message! We’ve also answered some of the most common questions below.
What is the Annual Ball?
The Annual Ball is a formal and ceremonial event that brings together tradition and elegance. It can be described as a more dignified version of a song night bringing together the whole community. The night is not only filled with speeches, but also a three-course dinner, singing, awards, other performances, and dancing.
Can I break etiquette?
While some student unions are very strict about etiquette and dress codes, our Annual Ball allows for some flexibility, and you can break it in a tasteful manner. For example, you can play with different colors, and your shoulders don’t need to be covered in a dress.
A more detailed description can be found on the Etiquette page.
How do I wear pins?
If you have other badges, pins, or acknowledgements, you may wear them at the Annual Ball along with the rosette/sash. Pins are typically placed on the left side of the wearer.
Konjakkikorvat?
Konjakkikorvat (Cognac ears) is a tradition where you fold a napkin to resemble ears during dessert, when cognac is typically served. However, this tradition is not part of KY’s Annual Balls.
I’m a mursu, can I participate?
Absolutely! KY’s Annual Ball welcomes everyone, whether you’re a mursu, an exchange student, or further along in your studies.
Who can attend the cocktail reception?
The cocktail reception is for those who received a separate invitation to the Ball. During the cocktail hour guests can greet the KY board and mingle before the doors open to everyone at 17:00. After that, other guests may join in with a toast before dinner.
Do I need to bring a Kiljukaula?
A Kiljukaula is not required as there will be a program leaflet containing the most important songs. However, if you wish to bring your own Kiljukaula with you, you’re free to do so!
